What do you need?

First of all you need to think about your writing conditions, exactly what tools do you use to write? Is it simply pen and paper or is it a laptop or computer? You also need to think about the space you have available to you. Another equally important matter is whether or not people are actually going to be seeing your desk regularly; an antique writing desk may seem like a good idea but will it really matter if no one gets to see it? It also helps to evaluate your role too, a hot shot business executive is hardly going to be working on the same furniture that a college student would.

Desks with hutches

If space is an issue for you then desks with hutches or hutched desks may be worth considering. These desks give you lots of storage space without you having to sacrifice on leg room or limit your working area. These are ideal if you like to keep organised and require various different compartments in which to store your belongings, everything from books to CDs to letters and briefcases can be assigned their own little slots.

Corner desks

If you want to maximize the amount of space you can utilize from an allotted room then corner or L shaped desks can be ideal. These desks are designed and built at right angles so they can fit snugly into corners. Many of these units do tend to be on the large side but you will enjoy much more storage space. The sheer number of compartments and drawers make these units incredibly practical; you’ve got big compartments for larger items such as brief cases and spare paper whilst smaller ones can be utilized to store wallets and CDs. If you’re a bit of a messy worker these units are perfect, you can spread out all your documents and ideas on one part of the desk whilst actually writing from another.

U Shaped desks

If you’ve got more space than you know what to do with or are just in need of a large working area U shaped desks are something you may wish to think about. These units actually surround the user a desk and storage space on 3 sides; often times 2 sides consist of flat surfaces or computer desks for writing whilst the third acts as a large storage cabinet. If you’re serious about your work and need as larger a working area so you can get your work done these U shaped-desks are ideal. Do remember though that you will need a lot of floor space to facilitate a writing desk such as this.
