Fake security cameras: Is a dummy security camera really worth investing in?
70The debate over fake security cameras has been raging for several years now and there still seems to be somewhat of a conflict of beliefs between various different people. The obvious argument against these units is why you would invest money into a dummy security camera when you could just purchase a real one instead? As it turns out the arguments for doing just this are rather compelling. This article is going to weigh up some of the benefits of using these cameras and help you determine whether owning one wouldn’t be such a bad idea after all.
Two reasons to buy dummy cameras instead
There are two reasons why you may not wish to buy a fully functioning
home security camera system; first of all they cost a lot of money.
You’ve got to consider the fact that buying such a device will actually
cost you more money than replacing the stolen items from a burglary;
many shop keepers or home owners might live in areas where crime isn’t
(thankfully) high enough to warrant such an investment.
No maintenance costs
Another more overlooked issue is the fact that actually operating these
systems can be a handful in and of themselves. Are you going to be able
to have someone manning the monitor screens every minute? Are you going
to be able to look over the surveillance tapes yourself? Chances are if
you own a shop you won’t notice much of the petty theft going on so you
would have to consult the recordings. Is it really worth your time to
spend hours looking over these tapes, or paying someone to do it for
you?
These cameras really do deter crime
When you consider the above arguments the idea of using a simulated
security camera begins to look quite attractive. A dummy camera placed
in the right location can really deter criminal activity because you
suddenly place the fear of being identified into the perpetrators mind.
Many of these cameras actually look incredibly realistic and the cables
and LEDS looks really authentic, it can be impossible to tell them apart
from the real thing.
Cheap & Highly realistic
Of course the added benefit of using an imitation security camera is
that they can be purchased rather cheaply. You can purchase highly
realistic looking cameras for just over 10 bucks; the Lorex DE6056 Dummy
camera is a perfect example of this. Alternatively if you wanted to go
for something a little more bulky the blinking LED camera by SVAT
electronics is another option to consider, this product retails at $22
and simulates the movements of really cameras.
Drawbacks of fake security cameras
The only drawback to owning these cameras is that if someone finds out that the unit is a fake this message can be spread rather easily and it may make the cameras presence fairly useless. Of course the probability of this happening really does depend on how many people you tell and the popularity of that particular brand of fake camera. Most experts would agree that this argument shouldn’t be enough to put you off buying fake security cameras.

My short 2 years with a security company we were not allowed to sale or install dummy cameras, because I heard few years prier a woman was attack in a stair well she was able to get away to a hallway because she know there was a security camera there. She has attack in the hall unforunatly the camera in the hall was a dummy. She sued for false security.
