Brass door knobs, Crystal Door knobs and Discount Door knobs
66Door knobs aren’t something most people think about on a regular basis. In fact, unless you’re a home decor fanatic you won’t even give a second thought to them until they need replacing and you’re prompted with a choice. I always find it rather humorous when people fret about which types to buy because in most cases they haven’t given any consideration the ones which have been in their house years. Of course I know that when it comes to buying new door knobs you do need to be a little picky because they can literally stand out like a sore thumb if you select the wrong type.
Types of door knob
Before I go on I would like to point out that there are some door
handles you probably never encountered before. It is important to be
aware of these because you may find yourself purchasing something that
isn’t quite what you expected it to be. Single and double dummy knobs
are usually found on old front doors, unlike most knobs these do not
actually need to be rotated to open, they are usually found on doors
which feature magnetic catches. I doubt you’ll require one of these, but
don’t take my word for it. Passage and privacy style door knobs are
generally what most people are most accustomed too.
Crystal door knobs
Crystal door knobs will actually blend in to any most homes regardless
of their age. Most people have this idea that these handles are going to
be too flashy for their homes when in actual fact some are actually
quite seamless and complement their surroundings rather nicely. Baldwin
and Emtek are the top manufacturers of crystal and glass door knobs.
Their products are always of the highest quality and they have a
slightly more traditional style which makes them attractive and very
much sought after too. Generally Baldwin and Emtek crystal door knobs
cost around the $60 to $100 mark. Of course cheaper ones are available.
Brass door knobs
Brass door knobs have been popular for a number of years and are a sure
fire way to add a little class to your home. Contrary to common belief
door knobs made out of brass fit just as well into modern houses as they
do more traditional ones. The only downside to owning these is that
brass does have a tendency to dull and tarnish easily. Our hands
naturally contain oils which are very harmful to the brass’s shiny
veneer, this means that constant care has to be taken to ensure they are
well maintained, not a concept which many people can get on board with.
Applying paint cleaner can be a fairly tedious process. Brass door
handles can cost any between $4 to $200, although I have found that $40
is more than enough to get hold of a quality set by C.R. Laurence, one
of the premier manufacturers of brass door handles.
Great door knob retailers
So there you have it, if you do your homework there are actually some great deals to be had out there. Home retailers such as Home Depot and IKEA regularly sell discount door knobs for bargain prices. If you happen to come across one of these sales it is well worth checking out.
